Computer Science Internship at Small Planet Digital, NYC

Small Planet Digital is an award-winning agency that specializes in iOS and Android mobile application development. We’re located in Dumbo, Brooklyn and have a talented staff of 30 designers, producers and developers. We make apps for some of the world’s leading brands, like Disney, GM, Oakley, FanDuel, Planned Parenthood, and many other great clients.

We offering two paid internships during the fall/winter 2015/2016 for students majoring in Computer Science. You must have a passion for mobile application development, and be willing to take on all sorts of project tasks in support of our team. Experience with iOS or Android development is great, and Objective C, C#, Swift and Unity are all things we use all the time.

The fall/winter intern position is for six months and about 20 hours per week, $14/hr., and we can be flexible on days and hours. It would entail lots of QA work, helping develop and execute test plans, logging and tracking bugs and performance issues as we develop our products. We’d also have some coding assignments in support of the other developers. You’ll be exposed to some of the top iOS and Android designers and developers in the city, we’ve had 25 Category #1s and two Apps of the Year. It would be a nice place to get some experience.

This is newly formed IT Department of the Staten Island Railway, a subsidy of New York City Transit. Project work will be performed across the SIR sites. This Department is responsible for implementing IT solutions in coordination with TIS along with troubleshooting and maintenance of all SIR IT equipment and software environment.

 

Project Responsibilities:

To assist with resolving end-users help request in a timely manner, software/hardware inventory management, preparing/updating documentations, coordinating with project work, troubleshooting software-related issues, deployment/maintenance of IT equipment, applying tags, markings, bar codes etc. for tracking, developing database to incorporate findings; will require site visits and lifting / moving / organizing of items / IT equipment.

 

Special Qualifications or Background Needed:

Some of the intended qualifications include, but not limited to, excellent verbal and written communication skills, good customer service and follow up skills, knowledge and experience with Windows 7, XP and DOS; Computer Applications such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project; Tools such as command-line utility, anti-virus software (McAfee); experience/familiarity with Windows Networking technologies, experience/familiarity with HP, Dell, and Microsoft tablet/notebook and desktop systems, experience/familiarity with configuring/troubleshooting Smart Phones such as Blackberry, iPhones, etc. The selected student must be available at least 20-28 hours per week within normal departmental operating hours 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Producing Intern

The right individual will be outgoing with good problem-solving skills, able to adapt to an ever-changing work environment, and eager to learn. They will work on a variety of projects in various mediums in the early stages of production, including but not limited to: working with artists, contracts, content delivery, and print material coordination, and assisting in volunteer coordination and outreach. They will work in conjunction with BEAT’s Festival Producer, Executive Director, Marketing Manager, and Brooklyn artists and venues.

Production experience is preferred but not required. A driver’s license is preferred but not mandatory. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and some social media is a must.
